Between 9 and 11 am is when they are the most active right now. Its so hot in Az they arent really using the smaller cracks and crevices , but have moved down into small burrows below ground in the cooler soil.
The best way to catch Chucks seems to be at night for me. I rarely hunt them during the day. When they sleep, I find they are much less likely to puff themselves up; rather they run away from whatever prodding tool you use. Sometimes they don't bother sleeping in cracks.....Just right there on the top of a rock. Kinda asking for trouble......lol. That said, morning is the best time during the day to find them.
