Northern Pine Snake Questions

Geckofanatic23 Aug 18, 2007 05:09 PM

Hey there everyone, I just have a few questions on Northern Pines. I'm clearing out a whole wall where I had my Leopard Gecko rack, and I have some room now. I've always admired the Northern Pinesnakes at the Great Valley Serpentarium here in Cali. How big is the average pine? Theirs seem to be around 6 feet, I'm not 100% sure though. Also, what is there basic care, cage dimensions, temps, suggested bedding? I just love the looks of this species, and the two I've seen had great personalties. Any help with my questions would be great. Thanks!

I have a cb 2003 pair and I keep them as follows:

temps 80-85 on the warm end, 70-75 on the cool...
bedding I use is aspen shavings
Not sure on the cage dimensions, but both snakes are 6ft and so their cages are quite roomy....

Adults have been known to grow over 7ft...Mine are currently in the 6ft range and are big beefy snakes...temperment can vary quite a bit, as my female is fairly laid back and only hisses while my male will take your head off if given the chance...

Awesome snakes to work with and will be breeding them next year...

They are usually 6-7 ft. They are very active snakes and will require a large enclosure when full grown. I take mine out and let them wander around periodically for extra exercise and stimulation. I keep mine at room temp (80F) and they do just fine, they don't need extra heat like other colubrids. They also eat smaller prey items than other snakes, but can be fed more frequently (like once every 5 days).
