Battery backup (UPS) with a Helix??

mykee Aug 18, 2007 06:21 PM

I've had a few close calls this season with brown-outs with my incubator,so I finally decided it was time to pick up a battery backup system (UPS) in the event of a prolonged power failure.
I've tried two different units now, a big box store multi-purpose (plug your fridge, microwave, tv in) kinda deal and an APC UPS for computers. I charged each unit and plugged my incubator into the back, as soon as I unplugged the UPS, the dreaded "EE" messaqge appeared on the Helix and no power went to it.
I'm curious as to what you guys use to back-up your Helix-controlled incubators, as I'm now fresh out of ideas. a gas-powered generator is out of the question as I live in a suburb, adn need something that will kick in as soon as the power goes out.
Thanks in advance.

Most likely the problem is the UPS you picked up is outputting a modified or square sine wave. If you look around you should be able to find a pure sine wave UPS, however they do seem to cost quit a bit more. I can't say that is definitely the problem your seeing but I would start there.

Here is a link that explains more in detail.
