Kingsnake Desicion

Geckofanatic23 Aug 18, 2007 09:09 PM

Well everyone, I absolutely love my Splendida, and am clearing the wall where I had my Leopard Gecko rack. This means, you guessed it, more snakes. My local kingsnake supply, the Great Valley Serpenarium has 100's of kingsnakes for me to choose from, and since they know me (considering I've unloaded what seems like truckloads of money to them for various animals), I am more than welcome to go into their back hatchling room to take my pick of whatever I want (unfortunately I have to pay for it). This basically entails me sitting there for two hours giggling like a little kid, sifting through box after box, looking at baby kingsnakes of 6 or so subspecies. Anyways, I really like MBK's and Cal Kings, and was wondering, is there any difference between the two besides coloration? Which do you guys prefer? Thanks for any responses, I love to read your guys's imput!

I'm an East Coast guy. I'm not much into Cal Kings. There is nothing wrong with them, I just prefer Eastern Kings. I do like the black kings though. I like the MBK because they are jet black. I'd go with those. Derek

The two snakes are pretty similar in feeding response, general care and temperament. MBKs may get a bit larger, but its really a toss up. It's hard to go wrong with either.

A nice jet black MBK is a beautiful animal, but so is a clean banded 50/50 B & W Cal king. Even today with high white cal kings, I think an even banded 50/50 is sweet.

It's all up to you. You'll enjoy either

"The band is just fantastic, that is really what I think. Oh by the way, which ones pink?"

no question about it, get both! I have both and must admit, I love the mbk's but I also love the cal kings and can't wait to see what I get from breeding them next year. But the blue/silver bellies on the black mbk's is just soooo cool, but the variety in the clutches with abberent cal kings.... like I said, get both!LOL! Good luck!
