thinking about getting a GTP...

killr_silhouette Aug 18, 2007 10:42 PM

i've been eyeing GTPs and ETBs for the past few months...and i am definately considering getting one...

i know they can be finicky, the babies are fragile, and they have a bad reputation for being fiesty...

can anyone give me some advice/info on them?

i like to get info directly from keepers, there are just certain things that you need to learn first hand...

which is a better choice ETBs or GTPs?

is there a better locality?

....finally is there anyone/anywhere that you reccommend getting one from?

thanks
jessica

I would highly recommend getting this book The More Complete Chondro, Greg has tons of free info on his website as well.

Personally I would recommend GTP over an Emerald Boa. GTP prices range from cheap imports $150 - $300 to $600 -$1000 for Captive breed & Born, high-end GTPs go allot higher in price.. I would also recommend staying away from imports and buy from someone you trust. This time next year I plan to buy a few breeders from Greg, Brandon Osborne and Trooper Walsh.

Never buy any GTP that has been sexed that is younger then a year, probing a GTP any younger then this can and will break the spine.

Making sure you have the right cage setup is the MOST important factor. Depending on your expertise you could build a cage using Greg’s layouts or buy your own online. These cages along with the equipment isn’t cheap, radiant heat panels for example costs $60 plus but are the best choice for an arboreal species like the GTP.

Locality is something you will have to read about on Greg’s site and book, very interesting stuff.

Hope this helps and good luck,
