Refridgerators make heat....

Guttersnacks Aug 19, 2007 07:39 AM

I typed a long winded paragraph, but there's really no need. I deleted it all on purpose, here is the short and skinny....

My snakeroom is about 11 x 16 with a 10' ceiling. No windows, only one solid exterior door.
I just installed an 8000 btu window AC unit to cool the room. I also have a full sized fridge in there. The fridge puts off heat. So, the AC and fridge will be fighting each other all the time, no?

Should I bother with trying to rig some kind of venting system? The garage walls sit on a single layer of cinder block, and 3 have been removed for use as foundation vents as required by code for ventilation and coastal flooding. I could use one of those holes to vent hot air out, but it might end up being too unsecure in the event I have an escapee.

Thoughts, feedback, suggestions?

If possible I'd set up the room how you want/plan to have it and see how much heat the fridge is putting out and how much extra work the ac unit has to do to combat it. It might be minimal enough to not worry about trying to vent.

If it's a fairly modern fridge, I wouldn't worry about it too much. They are very well insulated now, and the compressor doesn't come on all that often. The heat output should be minimal.
