Dave Herpstat ? for you

TimS Aug 19, 2007 11:48 AM

well first let me say thank you for making me want to toss out all my thermostats and get a herpstat pro since i feel mine are out of date POS lol. anywhos besides the fact that they are awesome and kick @$$ lol since they have diff probes for diff temp settings are you able to use diff wattage/size/length of flexwat with it or no? cause i know with other t-stat you like have to have the same length/wattage and what not. also do the four diff probes come with it (it would only make sence) or do they like making ppl pay money for more.

when quarentine an animal how far away should it be form the collection if mites are not a worry? cause you would think iof somehtign was a airborn virus etc it would travel into the next room since rooms are not air tight and what not. im sorry but i dont understand the whole virus type things and there travel etc. im asking 1 cause i am currious and 2 im getting some new snakes and recently we have had lots of spiders and centipedes down there for some odd reason but i dont wantt hem in with the snakes eating them up dealin some nasty ol bites. so i was thinking abotu putting the q rack in the hallway about 10' down the way from my other reptiles and door to room is always closed unless opened to enter lol. i cant put these guys in the frontroom since the girl has a iffy temper and the other house mates dont want it down there for that reason any whos fill me in o great and wise one

IMO what you describe is far enough, as long as out of the snake room. IMO the initial concern is mites. Beyond that keeping them away from each other and practicing good hygene and quarantine practices. ie, always care for the main collection first. Never go from the quarantined ones into the main room and always wash up well for both.

walking by the Q ones to get to the main room IMO is not a big deal, just don't touch the rack whilke walking past.

The herpstat pro comes as a complete 4 channel t-stat. Four seperate 10' probes and a sinle outlet for each channel. If you want to plug more than one item into a single channel you'll have to use an extension cord to get multiple outlets.

Since each is seperate, one cojuld runa heat bulb while another operates a piece of flexwatt. The combinations are endless. I would avoid running different heating elements on one single channel.

Gotta run, will read and answer other questions later today.

Think of the Herstat Pro as 4 seperate thermostats, so yes each channel can run different heating deveices. I believe that at least 2 of the channels can also be switched to run cooling devices.

All four channels can be set/used for heating/cooling and two can also be used as on/off for lighting.
