Advice on Cage Sharing

celera Aug 19, 2007 09:11 PM

Hi,
I am new to leopard geckos and I would like to know if I can house the two I have together. The first is a juvenile about 6 inches long (nose to tail tip), and from what I have read I think it is female. The second one is smaller, and young, maybe 3 or 4 inches long, and I'm unsure of its sex. Is it okay to put them in the same cage, or do I have to worry about the larger one killing the smaller one? (Note: I've read up on the basics of leo housing, and the cage is big enough and has enough hide boxes. So I'm mainly asking about the basics of putting babies and juveniles together). Any advice or comments on your own experience is appreciated.

just becuase of the size differences might stress the one out..

I agree - I would definitely be worried about that size difference. The smaller one could very easily end up dead in that scenario, and would almost certainly end up stressed and underfed as the larger one would outcompete it for food supply. If you truly have your heart set on housing them together, please wait until they're closer in size, probably when one has reached adult size and the other is very close.

Okay, thanks. I picked up a separate cage. I'll try housing them together later if the baby catches up in size with the juvenile.
