Unusual New Baby

boaswithballs1 Aug 20, 2007 11:42 AM

The snake on the right was produced by breeding a Clown male to a Pastel female.
I expected to see normal looking pastel's het. clown, but this baby appears to be a super or maybe something a little different.
I placed a normal pastel from a different litter next to the pastel het. clown for a comparison shot.
What do you think? Anyone else produce pastel het. clown that look like super's or anything different?

Thank-You

I hit a bunch of odd looking pastels every year from different breedings, even from pastel x normal. It is such a variable gene. I don't think that animal looks anything like a super though, it is way too dark. Is there a visible het in the pastel het clowns? Evan

Forgot to mention, I bred hypo pastel x het hypo and one of the pastel het hypos produced is a pastel, with the head, eyes and white belly, but it is an all high gold animal. No pink, orange or yellow like baby pastels usually have just all gold. They can be weird. I have heard of people hitting supers when only one side of the breeding carries the pastel gene.

Thats what I was wondering.Supers from only one side.
I am totally in the dark about clown markers. Can you explain if they exist and if so what do they look like.
Thanks

He's cool - perhaps there was a little something extra in one of the parents - or perhaps it's a fluke. I'm assuming he'll be a holdback - please keep us posted on his progress!!!!

Congrats - awesome project with a perk

JET Pythons

(CJBianco explaining the origins of the BP market.)
"In the beginning Bob created the Ball Python market. And the market was without morph, and wild traits were upon the industry. And Bob said, Let there be morph, and there was morph. And Bob saw the morph, that it was good; and Bob divided the morph from the wild trait. And Bob called the morph Albino, and the wild trait Normal. And the Albino and the Heterozygous Albino were the first investment.

I would keep it and see if there is something else going on... there could likely be something "extra" going on that the Pastel gene made more obvious for some reason or another.. Definitely should be keeping that one!

Good luck!
Bristen.
