Monday pics

First up is Opal, the last of the het hypos to shed out. Took these pics almost a week ago but hadn't gotten around to posting yet.

Opal's pre-shed shots for comparison....

Zoe had just shed yesterday and was looking hot hot HOT! She has definitely proven to be a good snap purchase decision over the last few months. I took several shots both with and without flash.
Pose 1 w/out flash

Pose 1 with flash. Funny how each shows off different aspects of her.

Pose 2 w/out flash

Pose 2 again but with flash

Another pic with flash, good tongue shot

So I was thinking I should grab out Thing for comparison shots. Pulled him out and he looked alright but not his usual stunning self, must be getting ready for a shed.

Thing decided he had enough and was going to take off so I only got a couple of shots with both in frame...

Both are looking great. I was just wondering if Opal is closer to the color in the photos with or without the flash, in real life?

Well, it's really hard to say. The non-flash shots don't get any washing out of the colors but tend to show as darker. The flash shots show the brightness but also wash out the color a bit. I'd say the second pic is probably the closest one. And as you already know, depends on time of day. She's an alright colored baby, it's the hypo gene she's not showing that makes her special right now. A few more sheds and she should be showing even more color. Will have to wait and see.

Lucky for me I do most of my cleaning/maintenance in the late evening and they all have their best colors on!!

Well she looks great in all the pictures in my opinion and I'm sure she'll start looking even better once she stats showing off her genes

Definitely, she will look better in a few sheds. There are two clear standouts in my 4.3 group of hets.....

The Male Chuck:

and the female Chris

They were clearly standouts pre=shed and after shedding only looked better!!!!

Those two are going nowhere, permanent specimens of my collection!!

They are both stunning and you are a lucky guy to have them. I hope to some day have as many great looking snakes as the people here. I'm at two for the moment but you can never have too many great looking reptiles.

NO Tim and Bob, not THAT secret

There are only three ways I know of to fill your collection with stunning animals.

1) DUH, be selective in your acquisitions. Not all have to be stunners but each should be acquired for a reason.

2) Breed good looking adults and keep back the best of the best! Some of those are so hot you'll never find them up for sale!!

3) Network with other breeders, when you have something desireable, even if you don't want/need it for your own collection, it can be a valuable trading tool to get something you do want. For example, those het hypo's I produced with Mike. Duh the 1.1 are NOT going anywhere. I do have plans to trade some of the rest for other het hypos from another breeders outcrossing efforts. Win/Win for both of us!!

That is a very smart way of doing things. Sadly I don't have the time, space or money to start breeding anything now. And I probably won't until I finish with school, college is expensive and my tiny apartment that I share with three other guys hinders my ability to much. When I am done though, and once I have a job and some money I'm hoping to start breeding. It's something that I really look forward to. Also until that day I enjoy talking to the people here, like yourself, that are friendly and post great pictures the likes of which I hope to have myself someday.

In that case stick to number one, make your acquisitions carefully. I know college students don't have much "spare" cash just lying around but still, I'd opt for the $200 stunner over the $100 regular any day. Ultimately most of the cost will be in caging, bedding and food. ie it costs no less to raise and keep a stunner as it does a normal. But at the tail end, it's a lot easier to sell the stunners and at a higher price than the typical normals. Although I do sell normals all the time to folks who just want one as a pet, not planning on breeding.

for all the advice. I'll make sure and keep it in mind while I'm acquiring my other snakes over the coming years.
