Baby Blood Caging

blueloon Aug 20, 2007 04:10 PM

Would an Animal Plastics T3 be OK for a baby blood? I know it is a little large, but I heard it would outgrow a T1 cage quickly.I plan to provide it with a hiding place. It would be nice if I could make a partition somehow in the cage. What is the difference between a rheostat and a dimmer? Could you tell me what heating options you would use for this set-up? Should I use a temp gun? Thank You Harold

I think it would be way too big. i would use a shoebox sized enclsure, but that is my opinion. they can live there for a year or so, again my opinion.

Rheostat and dimmer are the same thing.

if your room temps are constant, you could use a dimmer/rheostat, but if they flucuate, then i would just save myself the headache and get a good quality thermostat.

A temp gun is the bomb...pro products has one for 20 bucks. several other companies have em starting at 25 or so...you really can't go wrong w/ a temp gun, especially if you have a large collection.

good luck.

I have to agree with Jason here, a T3 is way to big for a baby blood...but there might be a solution to your problem. If you want to buy a T3 for it to "grow" into, you could just put an enclosed rubbermaid tub (with air holes in it) inside the T3, half on the heat tape and half off. You could buy larger and larger rubbermaid boxes as the snake grows until it's large enough for the T3. This might save you the $$$ on separate cages.

To Matt- Thanks for your answer. So if I use a rubbermaid shoebox I would use heattape.Does half on and half off mean I only have half of the shoebox covered with heattape? I was thinking of using a 10-gallon tank inside the T3.From what I understand they like a little hidebox with sphagnum moss.Could you give me your opinion if one option would be better? Speaking of hideboxes I see Visionproducts offers nice hideboxes.the only problem is they want a $150 minimum.A google search did not help much.Do you know anywhere i could find a nice hidebox? Thank You Harold
