This Sucks...

I bought four new juvenile RETF (at the Daytona expo) to add to my collection of five RETFs already. I was keeping the newly bought ones in a different container and somehow one of them got out. I have no clue how. My sisters said they opened the container yesterday and I assume the RETF might have climbed out at that time but they said they didn't see anything. Well I looked everywhere but how do you find a little frog (1/4 inch long) in a big 3 bedroom house???

Look near a water source when searching at night. Using a flashinglight and looking for the frog, if the skin is still wet, you should be able to see the reflection of the shiny skin, as well as the eyes. During the day it's probably hiding in a corner. Be careful when moving things. One of my frogs, Bentley, squeezes out of the size of the cage and we find him hopping on the floor at night, and one time laying in bed with my dog. I ducktape the sides so he can no longer get out, but the area he snuck away from was extremely small. I also had a frog get out 3 years ago, that ended up dying from an infection I was unable to control. Took us about a day to find him. We had to take the entire room apart to find him. We ended up finding him only because we heard him call at one point. The good news: we cleaned the room! But otherwise, I just sat on my bed all night long with a water dish in the middle of the floor, using things that mock the noise of the frog. That didn't work, so won't guarantee it will for you. But if you don't find him during the day, definitely look behind cracks at night...behind dresses. Another possibility is he may have gone into a vent. I also had the same frog that got out for a day climb down into the vent. Luckily I saw him go down there and my dad had to take the vent apart to get him. Unlikely situation, but always possible. He can't go too long w/o soaking in water, so leave sources out for him to find. Good luck.

Ish, where were the juvis at the expo? I went and only saw two displays with adults that didn't look so great anyway

About the lost frog, I know your frustration. Good luck in finding them, but I think it's hard to if you don't really know their habits. However, with treefrogs, always look up. The like to hide high in the room (corners, curtains, etc.), although this may not apply as well for such young RETFs.

You might have read about my gtf, and how he had to be put in a hospital cage! Well, a few days ago I saw this little, olive green treefrog, hopping around my bird cages,... Ack(I quickly picked him up). Then yesterday night, I came into my room, and was looking for my little guy in his hospital cage, I looked a little up, and there was my little guy happyily sitting on his lid, looking into my firbellied toads cage! Needless to say, he went bak to his normal cage, with no escape passages!

Look in the unexpected!
Steven
