Anerythristic pyro....

JKruse Aug 21, 2007 12:46 AM

well, it's actually a photo of one. I snapped this pic back in '93 at a Pennsylvania herp show (I believe it was a Pottstown show). Some guy was walking 'round with a few shoe boxes and this caught my eye. I asked the guy to open the shoe box, snapped a pic, and asked about it. He said it was "something different" and I agreed, offering a HANDSOME sum at the moment. He declined and walked away. Last I'd heard Brian Barczyk, after telling him about this, was able to track this guy down and just about making a deal, this guy welched and was (as far as I knew) never to be seen again. I heard from a reliable source that this year a young fella was walking around with an anerythristic pyro (similar to my experience 14 years ago) at a herp show either in Long Island or Pennsylvania (I'll confirm this in the coming day or two) in a shoe box and disappeared. The saga continues....

This pyro(infralabialis)and its sibling and its parents were sold to a breeder in South Carolina, I did not welch on a deal with Brian B I had already made a deal with the person who now owns these snakes and Brian was trying to make me a better deal and I wouldent bite. I Remember somebody at the Pottstown show trying to offer me a few hundred bucks for the snake just wasent gonna happen I knew what I had, I tried for a couple of more years after the anery was produced to get more offspring didnt happen and decided to part with all of them. Haven't talked to the breeder who has these in quite some time but last I saw on his website he was still working with them.

very cool story but I would say its more of a hypoeutheristic (sp?) than a anery.Looks like ric blairs pyro.

I sold this snake , sibling ,parents to Walt Deptula they may have gone to another breeder since I last talked to him. Walt used to have a website called "America at dusk " or somthing very close to that and he was still working with them last time I got on his site but this site no longer exists, I would sure like to catch up with Walt, used to come to Maryland and look for coastals with me and he was working with some very interesting herps last time I talked with him.

I saw that site a long time ago. Walt was working with "anery" L. p. infralabialis as you said. Ric Blair's "anery" was L. p. pyromelana from the Chiricahuas so there must be two now, assuming both are still alive.

I thought Ric Blair was working with anerythristic multicincta, which is still pictured on his "ghost-town-like", NOT pyro. Or am I just missing something? Thanks for any clarifications.

Sorry I am in a time warp. Ric Blair is a good friend of mine. He HAD an anery Chiricahua pyro several years ago. They never made it to his website as he ended up trading it for some Honduran milksnake morphs. I only brought it up to testify that there are/were at least two strains of anery pyromelana. You are also correct, he does have anery multicincta. At least he did last time I asked him about it which was actually quite a while ago.

The hypoerythristic that Ric had, I have now. Terry Dunham proved it genetic in '04 and produced a male and female, none have been hatched since then. I have a clutch that is out now, I think 4 out of 6 are hypoE's, and then another clutch from one of the orginal het females that should hatch in the next day or so. Heres a pic of the hypoE male, a really neat snake!

I just got back from visiting the same area this hypoE was collected from, such an awesome place. I even was able to see a pyro from that trail, that was really neat for me.

That's cool to know and that's a very nice looking snake. I had never actually seen it and it does look hypoerythristic, not anery. Thanks for posting.
