The state of Wisconsin has no specific laws regarding the keeping of non native reptiles. That is to say they do not specifically say that you can not own this or that reptile. there is a law on the books that prohibits "dangerous animals" but only they know what that means and they will probably only interpret it if there is a problem. They do require that any animal brought into the state have a certificate of health. If you are buying from someone in Wisconsin that would not be your concern as they would have to have the health certificate To bring the animal in. If you are buying from outside the state you would be responsible for providing that certificate. There are many communities however that do prohibit specific reptiles. The city of Kenosha, for example, prohibits all constrictor snake (yes that includes corn snakes) Some communities require permits. Your best bet would be to go to your local government offices and ask. Go to your city (or village or town or whatever) and go to your county government office. they should be able to tell you if there are any restrictions..

Where do you live or where are you thinking about living. Maybe that would help if others are living in that area. If you have any other questions you can email me at sschind@peoplepc.com and I will be happy to try to help you out further.

Check your city and county regs, too. LOTS of cities (townships) in WI have reptile/exotic animal regs.
