I currently have the cutest ball python ever. Come this november at the NARBC i plan on picking up a rainbow boa and possibly a hognose. i wanted to know can u take a hognose outside like a python or is there a risk of it darting away? Also what kind of personality do hognoses have cause they are the cutest kind of snake I have ever seen. Thanks.

If you think ball pythons are cute, just wait until you get a hognose!

I do not recommend letting reptiles run around outside. There are more bacteria and parasites associated with soil than anywhere else. If you insist upon doing this, make sure you are getting them tested frequently for parasites. Do not allow any sick, or possibly sick animals outside.

Hognoses can be a risk of flight. Most importantly, they have the ability to dig. They can disappear in loose soils in a matter of seconds.

One of the reasons I like my hognoses is because they sit on your hand and move slowly. I even let my little cousin hold one and it just sat in her hand, they are normally real mellow snakes once you get them to stop hissing and puffing up.
