Herpstat or Helix?

FireStorm Aug 21, 2007 07:24 AM

I need to get another thermostat, and I was wondering which one you all like better. I have a Helix right now, and I love it, but I have heard good things about the Herpstat as well. I was thinking about ordering a Herpstat and using both of them to see which one I liked better, but I would love to hear some other opinions.

Thanks,
Shelly

Both are great. You can't go wrong with either. I personally like the display on the herpstats a little better.

go with a herpstat pro... i use a helix but once i build my new racks im going with herpstat..... itll help control the temp gradient of your rack...there supposidly are 4 temp zones on the pro. It runs about 300 dollars if im not mistaking

Both are great thermostats, I use both.

Helix, IMO, has been around longer and withstood the test of time. As far as function though, I would say that they are very similar.

The Helix DBS1000 is built more rugged than the Herpstats though. I drop of a lot of stuff, so a strong casing means a lot to me.

I have 2 Helix, 3 Herpstat ND, and one Herpstat Pro.

I like Herpstat because of the alarm feature and more than one-button interface.

The alarm has saved a rack of snakes when the temp probe came loose. As soon as the temp fell on the probe, the alarm went off, and I avoided runaway temps.

The much better interface allows temp reduction without cycling through like with the Helix.

Cool, I didn't realize the alarm worked like that. That would be really good. I think I'll order a Herpstat and give it a try.

Thanks guys!
