The clay becomes almost concrete after awhile and acytually provides very little burrowing substrate. Its really just a product to help hold a constructed burrow once and than stay together.

If you want a humidity substrate I recommend getting topsoil mixed with peat moss. Holds humidity very well. I myself use my backyard dirt mixed with peat. I change the soil ever so often and let the waste composte in a pile in the back. Its a really cheap economical way.

Best of Luck

By the way I havn't used the product myself just discussed this with other herpers.

Dirt is usually the best way to go. It holds burrows and humidity well and is usually free (or dirt cheap). (sorry for the pun I couldn't help myself). I haven't used the clay myself but had a friend that tried and didnt like it.

Cypress mulch holds humidity well for most snakes and moss does as well. They are usually pretty cheap and redily available.

Heck you could always try the clay and see if you like it. I would like to hear first hand how it holds up.

I have a friend using it to set up a termite mound in a cage right now, I let you know how he likes it!

zoomed ripped of terra5designs for this substrate, I know that for a fact. I saw the guy make it and later learned he spoke to zoomed about buying his idea, they really ripped him off on this stuff. it's still junk compared to theirs but anyway. theirs has too much clay i've learned and dries things out. he developed it at venomlist years ago.

I've tried this stuff. it is messy, hard to mold, as soon as you mist the cage, it gets soft again... I can't see it NOT completely drying out an animal. It dried out my hands while I was working with it.

I wasted money on this product and was so dissatisfied that I threw it all out less than a week later.
