Identify? Big eye tree frog.

bucksboogie May 22, 2003 01:53 AM

I just got in a Big Eye Tree Frog. It's got a green, changing to light brown skin, large dark brown eyes, light blue "arm pits" and sporatic yellow polka dots (about 2 millimeters and maybe 20 of them). Can anyone identify it? It's a male, got it from SouthEast Reptiles and they couldn't tell me anything except it's a big eye. Thanks in advance, Rob (the worst name in retail) D.

Here's a link to Becki's page that has a link to Hank's care sheet on big eyes.

Thanks Derek for the recommendation, - but it's www.froggie.info now (formerly Becki's Froggie Pages) and the leptopelis vertmaticulis(?sp) page is Henry's not Hank's.
It is the only page online written in english on them. I can tell you that there are numerous subspecies in the leptopeidae family and it is very difficult to identify them specifically because of this. It is also very confusing with them the large variety of common names they have: Big-Eyed, African Big-Eyed, Peacock, Usambura, Tanzanian tree frog to name a few. Anyhow, good luck with him! Hope this helps!

Thanks for the tips you guys, but no luck yet. I'll borrow a friends dig cam and try to post a pic. It's kind of tough with the webtv, so I might have to email it around.

Thanks for the link, but it won't download for me, probably a webtv thing. Any other suggestions? I've spent a lot of time looking and still can't find it. However, you did help me find another frog forum and I appreciate that very much, seen your posts there. Take it easy, Rob.
