Black Mexican Kingsnake

Ravenskyfire Aug 21, 2007 03:59 PM

Damien seems to be having a growth EXPLOSION so I thought that I would post a recent pic of him. I swear that this snake is a bottomless pit when it comes to eating. I am feeding him small adult mice and he seems to be hungry again in just a few days. Looks like it may be time to up his mice again(atleast feed him two instead of just one). I think he's trying to eat me out of house and home. Typical teenager!!!LOL

No secret to it. I feed him when he's hungry, handle him a couple times a week and keep his cage and water clean. It helps that I got a good snake from a good breeder!

Do you think that a 30 gallon tank will do him for the rest of his life or should I move him up to something bigger in the near future? I got some ShowCase cages for the cornsnakes and really like them so far. I was thinking about getting one for him but I just can't afford it right now.

Thanks for the compliment! It makes me feel good to know that I am doing something right.

Very nice, Manda!

I have a pair of his clutch-mates here, and they're looking right on par with your guy!

Will attempt to take a pic of him in between feedings and him trying to eat my fingers! (very short window right now!)

I used to feed Damien out of my hand. But he got to where he would bite me thinking that my fingers were another mouse. I don't think I'll ever have to worry about getting him to eat!!! So now I feed him in a tub like I feed the cornsnakes. Him biting me didn't bother me much at first because he would let go as soon as he realized that I wasn't a mouse. But now that he's getting bigger, he's starting to draw a little bit of blood. Not to mention that I personally don't think that my fingers look remotely like a mouse! LOL

Sounds like you are having slightly better luck than with my '06 MBK. She was a feeding machine ... and then switched off.

I moved her to hoppers and she was eating 2 a feeding - and suddenly stopped taking them. It's been two sheds since she has taken a hopper. She is taking fuzzies but now she wants nothing to do with hoppers, even when I withold food for 10 days.

She's around 30 inches or so.

My cal king is like that... I had him up to adult mice and all of a sudden, nothing... today is only the second time he's ate since March because he won't eat anything f/t anymore and won't eat anything fresh killed or live bigger then a fuzzy... So as my mice breed, I've been feeding him fuzzies... I'm hoping since I got a large litter this time I can try to get him on hoppers again soon...
