Crested egg question

Piglet106 Aug 21, 2007 05:57 PM

My crested gecko eggs are *dented*...one on the side and one on the bottom....They have been in the incubator for 68 days and I am wondering if this is how they begin to hatch or if there is something wrong....The vermiculite is moist and just before they dented I was seeing movement inside...These are my first crested eggs, so I am unfamiliar with them. Any assistance would be great as I am *freaking* out..LOL

Dents are usually a bad sign, particuarly in a egg that advanced.Early on it might mean that they are too dry and can be rescued by adding moisture to the vermiculite.
If the egg is still white like a chicken egg ,Ild wait awhile longer .If its yellowed or moldy I would suspect it is no longer viable.
I know that isnt what you want to hear , But if they are your first eggs..your cresties might still be young and getting it right themselves. You may not have done anything wrong .Ive often noticed a young mothers first hatches tend to be smaller and weaker than futre hatches.

Better they die in the egg then have some sickly ill health hatchling that will die a slow agonizing death.

Thanks...I will hang tight for a while longer.....they are still white as can be and look the same as they have except for the dents...how do they usually appear before they hatch? I know what beardie eggs look like, but not these....

they just look really really plump and then bam! out pops a baby lol

i have had the dents happen to me once, the eggs had been growing and were pretty far along too, but a few days after the dents appeared, they molded over =( they were not her first clutch either, i suspect the vermiculite wasn't damp enough to begin with but i don't know. i tried adding just a bit of water to the medium but it didn't help.

i hope yours make it!
