i used to use R pellets and aspen with little odor probs.pellets mounded in the corners and a thin layer mid then an 1" or 2 of aspen.
it was more compostable almost combustable when wet, i killed some sunflowers by mulching it ,cause of the heat the plants folded at the stalk.just a thought..................C

I used all alfalfa (rabbit) pellets. It made great mulch, which eliminated disposal issues. It is best to compost it for a while though, it's pretty 'hot' when fresh.
