It's about time you stopped talking about it and finally got one. lol. Congrats.

He looks big. How long is he?

shannon20019 Aug 22, 2007 09:15 AM

well gee! thanks alot there BDlvr...LOL He's about 11 inches...he's a big boy, that's for sure! He's still pretty shy which I'm guessing is normal and we've kept our interactions very brief...but he hasn't gotten all freaked out when we go near him, just kinda checks us out while we're checking him out..so that's got to be a good start.he's only eaten about 10 crix yesturday and so far about 8 today. we had to take out crix yesturday b/c he wasn't eating them and they were in there for about an hour or so. I checked on him about 8:15..lights go out at 8...and he was so cute all sprawled out on his rock..sleeping! gosh they're neat!! oh and I had my first encounter with Dragon Doo! wow..that little guy can poo...LOL so this brings me to, yes, yet another question...lol I know people suggest weekly baths, when should I start this?

BDlvr Aug 22, 2007 11:14 AM

Really and you haven't started yet? I shower daily.

shannon20019 Aug 22, 2007 11:20 AM

HA HA HA! VERY FUNNY! I meant the dragon...when do I start giving the DRAGON a bath...lol

BDlvr Aug 22, 2007 11:35 AM

I'm the worst person to answer this question. lol. I'm not a real bath believer. Although my girls really love them. I only give baths to help with shedding or when I'm worried that they haven't pooped in a while. My male probably hasn't had a bath in 6 months. The girls each had one last month since they get dirty from the nest box.

Anyway, I'd wait a week at least. Usually, they don't love their first bath, they seem to learn to enjoy it after a few though.

Just make sure you're offering water twice a day. You should probably mist him while he's shedding too. And keep an eye on his toes to make sure the shed comes completely off.

it looks like his arms/legs and tail are done..just his mid section and head are still "glazed" over. I have been misting him and I also leave a water dish in there. I wasn't going to at first and it was originally his food dish. but as soon as I put him in his enclosure yesturday, he went right to it..and kinda looked at me like "hey! new girl, this should have water in it"..lol so I put some water in it(and of course,I have changed it this morning). I know the breeder leaves a bowl of water for them in her enclosures and I later found him completely in the water just chillin'..lol so I guess I have to buy a new food dish...lol I'm just using a small lid right now.anyways, thanks!

I put water dishes in all my enclosures too. Short of hatchlings, I have never seen any of my dragons in it or drink from it but who knows. I always have 2 water dishes per cage. One that's in there and one that I clean and allow to dry thoroughly to prevent bacteria build up. I don't worry about food dishes since I take them out and clean them every night.

I like the Zoo Med Reptirock water dishes (not the food dishes). Right now my hatchlings have the smallest size a water bowl and a jar lid as a food bowl. When they outgrow this their water dish will become their food dish and they will get the next bigger size water dish.
