River Road Alternas from Daytona

python11 Aug 21, 2007 07:10 PM

Hi all -

I scoured the Daytona show Friday, Saturday and Sunday for locality specific gray bands. Lee Abbott had 1.3 Juno Road babies that I found right off. Unfortunately I was late on the trigger and he sold a pair before the official show opening on Saturday. At the end of the day Saturday (and quite by chance), I ran into Mitch Allen, who had two pairs (all clutchmates) of River Road Alternas. These were from a Damon Salceies bloodline. I grabbed a pair of those up quick. I could not find any other locality alternas. Mitch was quick to point out that these babies hatched 08/03 and had not eaten yet, but reported that the parent's clutches had always fed well. Sure enough, after the three hour drive home I set them up and attempted a feeding trial with frozen thawed pinkies. They both ate within five minutes. Here are pics (if this works)

This is the male:

We picked up a couple of his River Roads too... one for us and one for a friend. The price was right. One ate a live unscented pink yesterday.

Did you notice how big they are for hatchlings? You can't even see a pinky lump in ours. It's the size of a slow starting yearling!

The size was really a selling point. The Junos that were already eating were still much smaller. I was very suprised at how robust they were. Mitch told me that the parents always produce nice clutches.

Now I need to look for a pair from another bloodline...

Nice snake! I got a male from the exact same guy. I havnt tried to feed my little guy yet but its good to hear his siblings ate! I live in San Antonio and I am now looking for a female. Does any one know if Joe Forks will have any of the river roads this year?

Thanks

I'm not keeping any alterna at the moment.

I'd suggest the brreder's page located at www.kingsnake.com/alterna/breeder.html
