land.
Experienced herpers know it is often best to stay in a centrally located hotel or motel and decide exactly where you want to go for the night only an hour or two ahead of time. We often sit around all afternoon watching the weather channel making our final decision at the last possible minute. While hunting private land can have it's benifits such as better scenery, ambiance and low crowds it is probaly not going to be likely that we can have 4 or 5 ranches that we can call at a moments notice and say hey I gonna be there in 30 minutes can you be ready. The more likely scenario is that most ranchers if they even will allow you access are going to want notification, payment and waivers well beforehand. So often times you could be left with a situation where your hunting for the night or the week is shot because a front came in and you have already paid when if you had access to the roads you have the option of driving somewhere else. In fact often these decisions are made at 1 or 2 in the morning and you are at say 277 you still have the option to go over to Langtry or something if you get rained out where you are.
