What is the best way to fatten a leo up?

PoohBear03031 Aug 20, 2003 02:05 PM

One of my females, (Raptor) is skinny. Her tail is thin, but her body isn't too bad yet. She is not eating as well as my other six. I have her in a 55 gallon aquarium with two other females and my male. I think she might be being bullied, because she runs in the opposite direction when we put the crickets in. All the others fly all over the cage hunting, but she just trys to get out of the way. She stays in the hidebox most of the time. I am going to seperate her from the rest, and give her some alone time. I am just wondering what is the best way to get her bulked up? I am going to get her some mealies, and I am thinking about getting some butter, wax, or silk worms. Which ones are the best. Is there some kind of suppliment I can give her? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You might want to keep her separated from the rest until she is the same size as the rest of them.. with regards to food, i would keep a bowl of mealworms in her cage with her, or crickets with their hind legs pinched off. be sure to dust with some vitamins and calcium, i dust my younger leos food everyday with calcium and once every week with some herptivite. as for the others i keep a calcium container for them to lick.. as for fattening foods, mine plump up with pink mice, wax worms are also a good alternative or butter worms.. but don't get her used to the wax or butter worms.. they are addicting and not exactly the best diet for leos. other than that, keep everything optimal for her... temps etc, and in due time she should eat a lot and start gaining weight... best of luck to you

If you suspect bulling at all, I would separate her from your other geckos. I’ve found they grow faster on their own. I have used wax worms before, and they are good for plumping up your gecko. Pinkie mice are also a good choice for Raptor, if she will take them. It would be best to provide a dish of mealworms in addition to the fatty foods (snacks). Hope this helps and keep us posted!
