wood perches

SamWaters Aug 22, 2007 02:46 AM

We are re-designing an old 125Gal for our bearded dragon to move into and I was wondering if anyone could recommend some places for good sturdy climbing furniture (wood branches, logs, etc....).

So far I am set on the lighting and heating setup and most of the inside furniture but I can't seem to find any good sized branches.

I appreciate any help. I'm in NY if it matters.

I enclosed a pic of the home-made boa cage to make the post legit : ) He was the previous owner of the tank. The enclosure was made by a friend of the family using wood, plywood and a plexiglass front w/ a silicone caulking on the outside. In the lower left corner by the hidebox there is a door and heavy-duty screen that opens for fresh air in the summer. In this picture it's decorated for Christmas. It is 6' x 6' x 24"

Not actually required but its good to share anyways, Merry Xmas!

Anyways, I prefer to collect my own logs as aposed to buying them. However in high moisture enviroments I can't collect anything local so I out source. Black Jungle terrerium supply has a bunch of great branches of various types.

However for a beardie any local log is just find. Its better to cut fresh and treat than to attempt treating forest floor branches. By treat I mean to kill off unwanted pests. Personally I just cut and place but to each ther own.

Good Luck

I made a Y-shape perch from one long 2x3 and a shorter 2x3 coming off at a 45-deg angle. Easy and effective, just not "naturalistic." For a boa, and she used it just the same.
