what did my girl lay??? help please!!!

spider916 Aug 22, 2007 01:31 PM

this female weighs 2200 grams. this is her secone clutch ever. her last one was two years ago. she laid 4 eggs that weighed 110gms each. those hatched perfect. this clutch has me puzzled. she laid 2 eggs that weighed 106 gms each. i had to go to work so i left her alone and when i got home this is what i found. there are no signs of blood on her or on the cage. she is acting normal and was very protective of the 2 eggs. please look at the pics and offer any advise that you can. thank you.

Wow I have never seen that, but it kinda looks like the embreyo is on the outside. Maybe someone has seen this. Crazy though.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it doesn't look good to me. I'm thinking that the membrane may be part of your girls oviduct. The dark colored masses are absolutely not normal. Worse case scenario, she dies, which is a risk of breeding. Next to worse case, she heals but she's rendered semi or completely infertile. Personally, I'd try to find a competent reptile vet to examine the masses.

Best of luck,

Kassandra Royer

i pretty much thought that it was part of the oviduct. it sucks to think that. she isnt bleeding and is still acting normal. i will hope for the best. i dont plan on breeding her again. i guess she will just be a pet now.

email that pic to Dave Barker and send him money to tell you what it is for sure....easier than a vet and cheaper......plus..you know David will be correct and most vets will guess at it.....

......rip open one of the blood clot looking blobs and see if it is blood clot or other,,,,

....I have never seen anything like that so all I could do is guess........

I have spoke to David before and I bet he would be more than happy to assist the guy with something like this. I agree with emailing him a pic, but I would keep the money as he might need it for a vet.
Sometimes there are people that would just be willing to help another enthusiast with an unfortunate situation (possibly unfortunate anyway). Not everything has a price on it.

One never knows what is real on this site when it comes to things people say.
I agree, like I said, Dave would talk to anyone as long as he had the time.

anyways........

Dave.......if he doesn't know what the heck that is ,,,noone will.......

.
.then again....where is Scott J Micheals???

it would cost nothing from Dave I know...I have spoken with him more than a couple times and he knows all...

sometimes people do things for free......yea..I know.......

sometimes people could be nice and ay also......

too many people buggin for free.......

thought maybe it would be nice to send Dave a Christmas present....

.........what will a vet do?.......your snake's ok or your snake just blew out an oviduct and will bleed to death......'

but they said there is no blood....

i saw the exact same thing come out of my amazon basin etb - except mine was under anesthesia and being operated on for being egg bound. the light colored ones are slugs, the others most likely necrotic eggs. that membrane may be her uterine wall. you need to run, not walk to a vet. she may have more in her, poisoning her, not to mention finding out what that membrane is.

think about emailing your photos to dr. stahl in maryland. google him, i dont have his info handy. he's a good guy - best snake vet in the country. you can ship him your snake.

good luck with your girl.

That is extremely odd, I've never seen anything like that.

E-mail those pics to Dr. Alan Slack, he's a specialized reptile vet in Maine and a long-time reptile keeper. He offers vet advice on another reptile forum I'm on. Here's his contact info per his website:

Hi, I'm definatly no expert but i breed my one of my females this year and i was finding horrible discharges (they smelt really bad) and also some of the red type pieces in your photo. I thought something was seriously wrong but the snake seemed fine. in the end she laid 5 eggs 2 duds and 3 good ones which are currently in the incubator.

kenny.
