Hiding argus

adainc96 Aug 22, 2007 01:44 PM

hi everyone. I got my argus baby yesterday. He's in great health, very active and has eaten a lot. Last night, he dug a huge burrow underneath a piece of cork bark and has been hiding there since. I've lifted the bark and he is awake and alert. Is it normal for an argus monitor to hide for such a long period of time (16 hours)?

hiding is quite normal, and you are going to wish he hid more once he becomes the berserker.

(great term FR)

they can hide out for much more than 16 hours. I once had a female dig a burrow, back fill it behind her and stay there for three weeks in the middle of summer. I thought she escaped. I was quite surprised to find her basking one day when I was just about to give her cage to another one of my monitors. Soon after I found the burrow she stayed in.

I have a couple Argus monitors now that are pretty flighty. I rarely see them. But, I have surveillance cameras on their cage and find they are just as active as my other fearless Argus monitors when I'm not there. Argus have many different personalities.

cheers
