Collared Lizard Drinking Habits

lcfish10 Aug 22, 2007 04:11 PM

hi........jim kendrick here.......
have several eastern collareds and was wondering if they drink from a water dish? the only way they drink is from a dropper and they come running right to the dropper when thirsty. kind of cute actually!!!!!!!!!
do they drink from a dish? have never seen them do so. i spray the tanks and rocks down with water and they do nothing. put an eye dropper full of water in there and here they come.
i am just concerned that i may have developed a habit for them. it is time consuming supplying those little guys water.
i am open for ideas of maybe a hanging reservoir type dripper?
open for suggestions.....i want to thank will wells, paul mcintosh and jim martin for their helpful hints.
EVE darlin', love your sight dear.
thanks group

Well I have 5 collared lizards and they all drink differently, Bonnie and Clyde will at times drink from the water dish and at times will sit there and tolerate getting misted. Bugsy, Thelma, and Louise all drink differently, Bugsy knows where the water dish is and will sit in it and soak in the water plus he loves to attack the water when I fill it up. Thelma and Louise hate being misted and I have seen both drink from the water dish and or lap up water from the side of the cage.

Mine has a water dish she just jumps around in and sits in. I have to change it out daily because of the sand that she throws in there, but she seems to like it. I'm looking into something smaller that would prevent her from throwing sand into it though.
