Heating Borneos during gestation???

Oxyjansen Aug 22, 2007 08:07 PM

My Borneos just mated for the first time, and I'm wondering if it is necessary to provide supplemental heat for the female during egg production?

They are typically kept at room temps between 77F nights to 82F days. This will be the females first clutch.

Also, how big of a clutch (diameter/height) can I expect, so I can prepare an appropriately sized incubator.

I always provide supplemental heat using radiant heat panels. Under tank is good also, but I get better results with overhead.

The biggest clutch I had was this season. 23 eggs that measured about six inches high, but easily 12" in diameter.

That's a pretty good sized clutch! How big are the eggs?

What exactly are the differences you've experienced with radiant panels? My cage is already set up with an under tank heat pad, so I may end up seeing how it goes with that, as the budget is a bit tight right now!

The eggs are variable and dependent on female size. Generally they are more round than oval and weigh around 100g with hatchlings around 45-50g. They are smaller than large ball python eggs for the most part.

Definitely bigger than my Gonyosoma eggs! LOL. Thanx for the info, I really appreciate it.

Hey Freight,
Been busy, but you can give me a shout and leave your number if I don't answer. I'll call you back abd help ya out with temps and such. I think Phil has an incubator you can use that he did a clutch of burm eggs in.
