Return of the "Purple"...

cranwill Aug 23, 2007 12:09 AM

I don't want to count my eggs before they hatch or count my babies before they eat... and survive BUT....

Some Lth enthusiasts know of my "Purple" baby back in 2005 (possibly only Terry out of the US breeders) and her/our struggle to get her going. Like myself, you were probably wondering what was up with that snake and whether the trait would prove to be heritable. Well, last year was a wash (slugs ) and I was really anticipating this year's batch pipping. Well yesterday was that day. And then today they started to emerge from their eggs.

Now, not only is this the pair that produced said "Purple" baby in 2005, but they also produced "Darth Maul" in 2004 along with a few Spotteds and other aberrants along the way. All 3 clutches have been incubated at 83F.

So here is 2005's little "Purple" girl...

And the last snake out of the egg from last clutch of the year...

I really hope this trait doesn't carry some "Death Gene".

Wish us luck. I'll keep everyone posted....

P.S. Here's a picture of "Darth Maul" for those who aren't familiar with her:

that caught my attention, as it's really something different. Please do keep us posted on it. It just messes with your mind as when you look at the body color and then your eyes hit the inner-triad, you expect white as if it were an anerythristic. Not in this case. Very cool....

Pics of the parents... for reference:

The male is the dark one but he is not actually that dark. He's just in shed during this pic. He is almost identical in color to the female. They're both just "plain old tangerines" aside from one connected saddle on the male... which is not out of the ordinary at all.

Thanks, Shannon.

I was really hoping this one's fate would be different. I am going to focus on out crossing the line to see if I can get some viable Purple babies here. It sucks to be on the verge of something so unique and have it slip away each year.

I'll still keep everyone posted.
