Question about snakes and incense/candle

krawf4 Aug 23, 2007 07:40 AM

Hi I house my snakes in my room and I was wondering if it would be safe to burn incense or candles in my room, or could this be detrimental to the snakes' health. Thanks

Detrimental, not sure, but my advice to you is to look at it from the point of view of the snakes (or any animals you keep).

Snakes talking: "We are helpless in these cages. You need to provide us everything and ensure our needs are met. We can handle some smoke, but consider that by keeping us you made a commitment to provide for us. Smoke is technically not great for us, but occasional smoke won't hurt. Still, we would appreciate some ventilation afterwards."

Yeah I figured its not good for them I was just thinking from the standpoint that I am rooming with some friends at college and I want to be able to cover the smell a little bit after the snakes leave me presents because even spot cleaning doesn't get rid of all the smell

I see. Big Apple Herpetological sells an odor-eliminator pouch that you can reuse over and over again. I use two in a small snake room, and it does help. No fumes, no perfume, no fire. Give that a look.
