It has been VERY hot here lately. I saw one Southern Copperhead in the woods two nights ago. It was cooler this morning and I found this one in the yard. It has an interesting pattern with spots. I released it soon after taking the PICs.

thanks for sharing some herping adventures with us even though it did travel in your yard it has a very nice pattern Jeff and it prolly heard stories about a guy with a mustache who does catch and release around there and he grows some rats to boot. Do you think that is a determining mattr at all with you growing rats and by some chance they smell a faint smell? nice suri you got btw too
Bob
Bob,
...They are pretty common all over the neighborhood. I do sometimes wonder if I see more than others around here because of my rodents. I clean the rodent trays twice a week and they are usually pretty clean but the snakes probably can detect some odor. I have even found a few of the Copperheads in the garage.

That is one nice looking Cooperhead, doesn't look that old but its missing the yellow in its tail could be because there is nothing to scale it to, how big would you say it was?

Jason,
...This one was around 30 inches long. Most I catch are smaller. The brightness of the yellow tail tip is mostly gone at around 24 inches in length.

Awesome pattern. Thanks for letting it go back to where it came from. I get angry at the young yard-boys at one of my jobs when they capture and keep one of "my" bullsnakes and take it home to live in a glass house. ....you'd think they would stop telling me.
