Large plastic pens ???

negatronix Aug 23, 2007 05:07 PM

Does anyone know where to get large plastic pens. I am looking for something like a large cement mixing tray. The largest that I can find is 4'long X 2'wide X 10" tall, which is too small. I've seen containers like this that measure at least 8'X 4'X 2'.

I've searched all over the net with no luck, and been to every major home improvment store to no avail...

Thanks,
-Kory

Some people use kiddy pools,- probably not as strong as cement mixing tubs, but cheap to replace. If you are lucky you might get them really cheap now at the end of season!
Another alternative would be a wood structure (cheap book shelf) treated with waterproof paint or lined with plexiglass or acrylic sheets and sealed with aquarium sealer.

If you live anywhere close to michigan I can build you one of these starting at $200. all lighting and heating is recessed under the top awning. I can build to your dimensions and wood preference. wood is coated in a waterproof polyurethane.

If you are interested call me at 586-703-2777 (cary) or email me at lykarok@comcast.net so I can send you a picture.

Thanks for the offer, I was actually a finish carpenter for 16 years and would have no trouble building any type enclosure. I am looking for a large plastic tub to build a wooden enclosure around, which I finally found thanks to the link someone posted here.

My tortoise loves the moisture, and humidity. I also want to make a "mud pond" within the enclosure for him.

Thanks so much for the link. The large tub is exactly what I am looking for, and the company is located only 20 minutes from me!!

They are a bit expensive, but so was the tortoise

I like rubbermaid stock tanks. They are cheap, large, and work very well. You can also use regular galvanized cattle troughs.

Where did you find those 4'x2'x10" tray? I'd like to check those out as they would be about perfect size for a project I wanted to start...

I bought cement mixing trays at Lowes. They cost about $10.00. They are black plastic, and are fairly thick/rigid.

The only problem that I've been having is that they have ribs along the side that my little tortoise will use to get a bit of leverage on... This usually results in a "tip-over".

I think that I'm going to buy a large Vision tray, or just make my own (probably a better idea) with an angle that will prevent dangerous tip-overs.

Good luck,
-Kory
