This is my one and only tangerine hondo egg for the year, I am still shocked over the size. Is this normal?

you know I had read several articles about hondurans..actually milk snakes in general but the point of the articles was describing how they laid elongated eggs. In hondurans, they are genrally good sized babies and thus the egg size reflects that upon deposit. Since the honduran wasn't necessarily a large girth snake, it's adaptation was laying long eggs. Don't know if it was true or just specualtion but seeing yours reminded me of some past readings.
Cool egg. Maybe should call that hatchling "Crayola" so as to remind you of the size of egg from which it came.

lol...yes crayola will have to be its name, when I was trying to get the picture I was trying to compare it to something and my 3 yr old ran over with the color...lol.
Thanks for the info, I was wondering if all milk snakes laid such large eggs.

That is not a Crayola brand crayon. I think the name Roseart would be more appropiate.

BTW my female GBK lays really elongated eggs like that too. They are not that long though.

Michelle,
It looks fairly normal for a hondo, it should "fill-out" as it absorbs moisture over time. My female lays huge eggs like that (thus, huge babies) but every female is different, I have seen much smaller hondo eggs too. With my Nelson's I have several generations of mothers and daughters that all lay different size eggs and clutches. It will be cool when it hatches.

Formerly “Never Enough Reptiles” but, I messed up and neglected to register the domain name or file as a business under that name. Since we are just small Hobbyists, I really didn’t think of protecting the name we have used for the last four years. Someone else is now Never Enough Reptiles LLC. And has a web site under that name. We did not move to Louisiana and we are no longer posting under that name.

Thanks Rick, I was worried it was going to be 2 headed or something...lol...to much time thinking I guess. This is my first hondo egg well actually we call them my husbands snakes that way he didn't freak when they came into the house you can't get mad over someone getting snakes for you...lol.
