OMH how horrible!

B22 Aug 25, 2007 01:38 AM

Hi
if they eating wel and for the rest growing and acting wel.
then you can better maybe give them away then giving them to the beardies.
i also know some people do it but i also not like the idea feeding them.
i got one time a blind beardie hatching with not eyes .
where they eyes should be there where dents.
what a future would that beardie have?
that beardie i gave to mine beardie mellow yellow.
if they r blind r they cant hunt i can understand it then .
but if they running around and eating wel i would give them for free to people.
goodluck .

I find this string of posts extremely distasteful! Especially as someone who hatched out a deformed dragon this year. My baby will need and receive special accomodations and care for hopefully the next 10 years or so. This is the responsibility I took on when I chose to place eggs in an incubator.

Too many people look at animals as a commodity. They are not. This is not nature where survival of the fitest rules. Plus who says a dragon with a curly tail won't turn out to be the fittest in nature. Certainly not if placed in an enclosed space with a larger predator. To me this is cruel.

That's why I would never own a snake. I can't watch a mouse tremble in fear in the corner on an enclosure waiting for it's fate. It's just too cruel.

Obviously to some the "fittest" is the amimal that can fetch the best price. Even in the case of a dragon born without sight it is still cruel to make the decision to classify it's value as only food. The humane and ethical thing to do would be to have the animal euthanized by a vet. That way it could die without fear and pain.

I couldn't sleep at night even contemplating what is suggested here.

niddy Aug 25, 2007 10:07 AM

Amen BD! I'm so glad you said something.

DDragon Aug 25, 2007 10:11 AM

I dont know what ur saying.
Im not killing or feeding them.
They did not came out of a deformed dragon.
My dragons ALWAYS getting the best care ever...
THE PETSORE suggest me to feed them to the parents.
To make sure noone gonna breed with them.
But i not that hard,SO IM NOT GONNA DO THAT.
And im not that rich like you are.
So i cant keep them all.Im gonna give them away like b22 suggested.

Thanks for your help.

I'm soooo not rich (searched the couch cushions for change earlier) lol. But I'd totally take one if you lived nearby. I'd name him Wilbur! lol

I'm sooo in love with my Albus (or Albus Max...my 5 year old added his middle name). I've told y'all before, but he has one eye and is missing a foot. But he's got the absolute sweetest disposition. Wouldn't trade him for the world! His sister, on the other hand....lol Just kidding. She's sooo feisty! Hasn't let me hold her yet. But I really believe that they haven't been treated well. Breaks my heart.

Anyway, ramble ramble! Have a great day, y'all!

Thanks. I'm glad we agree. We all make mistakes.

I've been around long enough to know that this happens. But, just prefer not to think about it. If I were you I'd probably just not mention it again, especially here where the majority of posters are pet owners like myself rather than breeders.

As a side note I asked my Vet how much it would cost to euthanize my baby if it became necessary. He said that he would not charge for this.

B22 Aug 25, 2007 04:29 PM

Hi
i tel it more for people ,so they made not same mistake as i dith .

I own 10 snakes I never watch mice tremble in fear while the snake approaches. Our feeder mice are humanely euthanized, frozen, and fed thawed. I just figured that if we're going to be pc, we should be pc across the board and not make snake owners out to be death lusty villains.

Anyway, if the original poster is going to give the babies away, I think it would be the responsible thing to do to explain to the new owners that these are not breeder quality, and why, and that these animals should be housed individually so that the chance of breeding does not occur (unless you're trying to create a curly morph). I have given away two babies in the past few years rather than putting them down and just explained that they were not exactly breeding specimens. We can compromise and bless someone with a cheap or free pet who could not otherwise afford one and retain the integrity of the BD lines.

BDlvr Sep 02, 2007 12:50 PM

what the heck is pc?

SamWaters Sep 04, 2007 09:23 AM

Politically Correct.

good post laurafl

DDragon Sep 08, 2007 11:43 AM

Weird as it can be the tails went back to normal with the most of them.
I think the reason for the curly tails whas, that i didnt gave the eggs enough space to grow by accident. It's my first breeding season, and i didnt thought about it.
