Genetics

Here is a quote from Snakebroker.com:

"If in fact these genes are linked, the albinos produced from this pairing will NOT be heterozygous for blizzard and the blizzards produced will NOT be heterozygous for albino."

Does this mean that albinos cannot be or are less likely to be het for blizzard??

"We have been reviewing the data from our triple het (albinoxblizzardxjungle) breeding project and wanted to keep our customers and potential customers informed of some recent trends. The cross is producing a higher percentage of albinos, jungle albinos and blizzards than predicted. Current numbers are leaning towards the possibility that the albino and blizzard genes are linked (they are on the same chromosome). Until we review our data from the entire breeding season, we will not know if they truly are linked. It appears as though the genes may be linked in a way that reduces the probability of producing a Blazing Blizzard. If in fact these genes are linked, the albinos produced from this pairing will NOT be heterozygous for blizzard and the blizzards produced will NOT be heterozygous for albino. We will continue to post them as possible hets until enough data has been analyzed to hypothesize one way or the other. If the Tremper line of albinism and the blizzard gene are linked then Blazing Blizzards can be produced from these lines; but the probability is no longer 1/16 but lower. However, Blazing Blizzard HAVE been produced, and if these traits are linked then in order for a Blazing Blizzard to be produced, the chromosomes must undergo a process called crossing over. This process happens regularly during sperm & egg production however crossing over will not always shuffle the genes in a way that increases the likelihood of producing a Blazing Blizzard. "

I'm planning on getting an albino het for blizzard and just wanted to make sure they exist!

If you read any good genetics book you'll realize that there are actually several possible explanations for the low numbers of blazing blizzards produced. Almost all of them have something to do with an animal that using basic genetics would be a het but other factors overule this and the animal is not really a het, The general principal of one allele masking another is nothing new but has only recently been introduced into the field of herpetology.

No i'm not talking about blazing blizzards, just normal blizzards.

If your not talking about blazing blizzards then the original post has noting to do with just blizzards.
