I'd never seen this before.

Hey guys,

I witnessed one of the coolest things last night with my chucks. It was feeding time, and well both of them have not been doing so well in that dept. They have been taking small bites etc..

Anyway, I was holding the small chuck while sitting down next to the large chuck's cage as I usually do and coaxing the little guy to eat. He caught me off guard and jumped off my hand into Mr. Chukkles cage and went straight for the food bowl. Mr. Chukkles quickly jumped up onto his rock and tilted his head going into full territorial mode. The little guy just kept picking at the food, and I cautiously watched.

With all of the head bobbing, push-ups, and tail flinging not drawing the younger chucks attention, Mr. Chukkles slid down the face of his rock into the food bowl and began eating. This was not the normal pick out the flowers and buds, it was more like how my Rhino Iguana is... Stingy, greedy, and an absolute pig.

The little chuck, in the meantime had jumped up to Mr. Chukkles basking spot and this did not sit well with the big guy. Mr. C. carried a full leaf of collard green with him and ate it on his rock while keeping a watchful eye on the little one.

I had never seen this kind of behavior with Chuckwallas before, and wanted to share it with you guys. I take this as a pretty good sign, as it would appear that the large wild caught male has decided that his new home is sufficient and claimed it as his territory.

Good news, indeed! Often a community cage is an appetite stimulant. Monkey see, monkey do...or in this instance, "chucky see, chucky do." LOL
