Bluerosy's Brooksi prediction...

EddieF Aug 24, 2007 07:44 PM

Bluerosy's prediction that my King - now that she's being fed properly - would grow to thirty inches by the end of the summer has come true! I assumed he was exagerating, but she's been growing fast all summer. Much of her black has faded but I still think she's really pretty. I can't believe soon I'll have a three foot snake!!!

This hide I just put in her tank is pretty cool, I found it in the fish section of the pet store, has lots of holes to peek out of and crawl through, and a big hollow space behind it. She seems to like it a lot.

To me a brooks is prettiest as a juvenile. The subtle colors (as you can see in your pic) are incredibly complex and beautiful.
Nothing like seeing an excited keeper! Your snake thanks you, I'm sure.

Thank you Mark. Yeah, she has a lot of detail, and even though she loses some of her stark contrast as she gets older, the fact that she gets bigger makes it easier to see all the detail, especially on her head! When we first got her I couldn't even really get a good look at her, a combination of her being small, her moving, and my eyes getting old. Sad when you need reading glasses to get a good look at your pet!

when you find them, send them to me so I can find mine, but write the address on the package BEFORE you put in the glasses, LOL!

But I suspect they can get fat after they are grown.
My adult MBK went off on breeding loan a healthy weight.
He came back with hips. I think the other person overfed him. It's possible it is genetic too, I've heard that it can be from corn breeders.

I'm giving him the same diet I give my amel cal king of the same size (just over 4 feet) - 3 f/t large mice a feeding (once a week), hopefully he stabalizes and doesn't get too much fatter. She was feeding him f/t juvie rats - I don't know quantity.

He's not just stout, you can see it is layers of fat deposits.

I'm also going to be giving him a much bigger tub hoping it gives him more room to perhaps exercise some of it off.

You can try raising his temp a hair to speed up his metabolism a bit, also try an extended brumation to burn some of the reserves off.
