Another picture - relieved owner

I moved my thayeri up to a fuzzy this week, but I misjudged how big the fuzzy was. After my little guy ate the fuzzy, he had a bulge that was huge relative to his body. Maybe he really wasn't overfed relative to what most people do, but I've never put such a proportionally large lump in a snake. I feed him in a paper bag, and for 24 hours, he didn't even attempt to escape the bag. I eventually tipped the bag on its side so that he could escape if he wished.

After a few hours, he disappeared somewhere in his cage, and I saw him sticking his head out of the moss last night. Tonight, he was out of the moss for a few minutes and crawling around the cage. He seems fine, but I will either find some smaller fuzzies or move him back to multiple pinkies for a little longer. I caught this picture before he went back into hiding.

It's not how many snakes you have. It's how happy and healthy you can keep them.

I love it when my animals play with their toys. I wasn't sure whether my thayeri would ever use this climbing toy that I bought for the cage, but I kinda liked the look anyway. Tonight, I found him climbing on the toy.

Bill,
Your set up looks interesting. Do you have a pic of the whole thing? Is that butcher block paper you are using for the bottom?

Shawn,

Here's a picture of the whole thing in its current setup.

The paper on the bottom was packing paper that came with something that I ordered and was shipped here. It's a nice brown color, and it may have originally been butcher block paper. I'm thinking about buying either regular kraft paper or textured kraft paper for use on the bottom.

I'm also planning on changing something to allow me to put Eco Earth in the cage. I may add it directly over the paper or may put it inside something else. I won't have Eco Earth over the entire bottom of the cage, but I will have some part of the cage where he can burrow in the Eco Earth.

At this point, both of his commercial hide are stuffed with paper to make them a tighter fit for him. I've never seen him using the one on the left, but he's used the plastic log in the center a few times. I leave a few odd pieces of paper around the cage to let him move around under cover if he wishes. I've also seen him hiding under the purple plant on the left.

Yes, the cage has three water dishes. I'd try to give you a reason for three water dishes, but there's no good reason. At least he doesn't have to crawl far to find water. Most of my snakes have two water dishes. If they defecate in one water dish, they still have another one to drink.
