Q: Baby Ball probed 4 scales, won't pop. Female?

O_S Aug 20, 2003 05:00 PM

I just sold a group of baby ball pythons.... Appears I missexed one of them, and the buyer is having troubles determining the sex of one other. It probes 4 scales deep on both sides, and he can't get it to pop. He thinks it might be a stubborn male. I think it's a female, no doubt.

Am I right in thinking female ball pythons should probe 2-4 subcaudals, and a male in no way should ever probe that shallow?

All the male clutchmates probed 8 or more scales.

Now that I have read all that (and you probably have too), do you have an opinion? That's what I was looking for.

I think the smartest thing to do at this point, is follow the advise on comparing them side-by-side, by the tail's underside.

That will be the best way, and will undoubtably be less stressful at this point. The amount of males you have to compare to should make it easier...
