For Zenny

Bluerosy Aug 25, 2007 09:29 AM

Hey Zenny this is what you miss when you don't go to the expo. This is just a normal flame hypo. But what a looker. Could have been yours...hee hee

Now that red on the head that a Flame should have. WOW!

I don't get it really.. Is it just the red head that makes it a "flame"?
I mean, I never called mine "true flame" or whatever and some are definitley as bright red/orange as that one. Some keep their red longer. Is that the marker? Can a yellow/orange snake be a flame?
Are their flames without the pattern degeneration? My brightest almost always have that lack of "pattern".
(Naturally, I produced like zero this year my hypo never laid an egg)
I'm just ignorant of it all I guess.

The red heads keep the red longer. There is a wide area for what people call a Flame. Any hypo today has some degree of red and people use the term Flame quite flipantly.. So to keep people from falling into a sales picth on the word "FLAME" its best to describe what a the best Flames are. Price should reflect this.

RED Head = Good

No red head = bad

Mark

The post was in relation to "Flames". Not brooks in general. The question from you was what the markers are for a good Flame. The head is the marker and not the color of the body.

ie. red head =good
no red= bad

IN WHAT PEOPLE ARE CALLING FLAMES! Not brooks in general.

Com'n now.

What makes you guys think those Flodana are brooks ,they have a very busy muted dark pattern.HaHaHa.................

CrimsonKing Aug 25, 2007 07:22 PM

as I hinted the hypo seems to do that....
I called it pattern degeneration for lack of a better term.
That popped out of a wc Dade county snake that was "one of the best brook's ever" as well as in others.

Yeah that's a nice one! now if that snake was a female, i'd cry! if not then it's nice but i've popped out some pretty killer males this season.

when selecting a good hypo hat ill retain red/orange YES a red head IS a plus but other factors need to be taken into consideration!

a DARK red will lighten better than a lighter red... the dark reds will be "redder" as adults.... there are a few things to look for just like selecting a normal hatchling.

This is the BEST male i've seen a loooooooooong time!... Deep red... clean pattern... red head... patternless belly ... solid/ defined head pattern! some lucky guy got this killer snake!

Another nice male... killer coloration!

And my hold back! not the best as far as color but his pattern caught my eye the very 1st time i saw him out of the egg. He is interesting looking... has almost NO black on him... almost like a HYPER morph! if you look at some other dark hypos they have dark/black tipping on the tips of their scales, this guy does not, also his "yellow lip"... so those are my reasons for selecting this guy.

So what color are the bellies? I had some "true" flames from Bob Fengya I picked up in 2000. They produced some of the most intense red animals I've seen to date. I haven't seen what I would call a "true" flame since then......lots of nice high reds, but the flames have a certain pattern to them similar to the NE axanthics. Lots of thin crossbars and thin lateral windows. The best of the best also have red bellies and not just red heads. I wish I still had my old pics. Computer crashes can destroy documentation in a flash.

Nice looking hypos!
