Breeding Westerns this upcoming season

justinmatthew Aug 25, 2007 12:10 PM

I'll be breeding the two western hogs I have this upcoming season. This will be my first time doing so. I have a couple of questions if anyone would be so kind as to help me out.

First what month should I start the brumation period?
How should I go about getting the right brumation temp? I don't have a basement in my house so the coolest part I can find will probably be mid 60s and from what I understand they need temps around 55.

How much should the male and female weigh going into brumation period?

Thanks a lot to anyone who helps.
Justin

I brumate mine from Mid November til early March. My experiece has been that low 60's will do just fine. I hatched 13 out of 13 by brumating in the lower 60's to low 70's. I t doesn't get very cold here in southeast Texas.
