Is it worth it to ....

MannyRottie Aug 25, 2007 05:16 PM

I am getting a female hatchling super pastel that is poss. het ghost. Her parents did not prove out, but he was told that it would be het for ghost. I am receiving her because she is a super pastel and the het ghost is a bonus. Is it worth it to purchase a het male ghost or just a male ghost, in order to prove her out. Or should I go with my first project or bumbleebees and killerbees? I want to do the project, but then I figure whats one more male. question is, should I get het or visual ghost male? Thanks

Just get 1.0 Het Hypo they are dirt cheap and eat really well. So if they do prove out you started a Hypo collection dirt cheap. I say go for it.

RussellLe Aug 25, 2007 05:26 PM

You will have better odds of proving her out if you use a visual Hypo male. Although possible hets are just that POSSIBLE only, so it's your choice.

I'd go with the visual ghost male. That way even if she isn't really het ghost, her hatchlings will be.

get a male honey bee, that way you get to make bees and check to see if she is het ghost. worse case scenerio is you make bees and pastels het ghost.

in my opinion if your trying to prove her out your best bet would be a visual hypo, that way you wiil know for sure if it is her not proving instead of a het hypo male. or if you've got the cash it would be well worth while to go with a honeybee...that way you will have your bees and even if she didnt prove all your bees would be het hypo.....but for some of us thats out of reach. but just think of the clutch if you go that route and she did prove...it could make hypo killer bees, hypo bumblebees, honeybees, hypos, killer bees, bumblebees, spiders, super pastel ghosts, pastel ghosts, super pastels, and pastels. 12 different possbilities. that clutch would make me lose much much sleep.

levi987 Aug 25, 2007 06:14 PM

oh yeah and I forgot to mention that everything that wasnt hypo in the clutch would be het hypo...thats a big bonus.

dcgator8 Aug 26, 2007 01:04 AM

Levi your clutch is wrong. The Honey Bee doesn't have any pastel in it. A Honeybee X Super Pastel het ghost pairing would produce 25% pastels het ghost, 25% pastel ghosts, 25% bumblebee het ghost, and 25% bumblebee ghosts

JSpythons Aug 26, 2007 10:50 AM

I didn't understand where he was coming up with the killerbees in that clutch

If you want to do a bee project with her - you can likely find a spider het hypo or poss het hypo to breed her to. If you want to prove her out buy a hypo and skip the what-ifs - comparatively hypos are relatively inexpensive and odds wise you'll have a better idea of what you are looking at if you don't hit.

Good luck!

(CJBianco explaining the origins of the BP market.)
"In the beginning Bob created the Ball Python market. And the market was without morph, and wild traits were upon the industry. And Bob said, Let there be morph, and there was morph. And Bob saw the morph, that it was good; and Bob divided the morph from the wild trait. And Bob called the morph Albino, and the wild trait Normal. And the Albino and the Heterozygous Albino were the first investment.

use a ghost male to see if she is het......you will then at least make female pastels that are 100% het ghost to keep

if you get pastel ghosts good deal

you can always breed her to a spider the third year breeding and a pastel the fourth

the parents did not prove out. If they were bred multiple times then more than likely your super pastel is not het hypo. I would either go ahead with your bee plans or get a visual hypo and then if you don't prove her out as a het, at least you have some pastel het hypos and in a couple of years you can have, pastels, spiders, bees, hypos and hypo pastels.

I eat human infants. They, like everything else, taste like chicken. What?

JoshMolone Aug 25, 2007 11:56 PM

Hmmm... I think I would got with the visual morph.... But on the other hand....Bumblebees ROCK!! YEAH!!! Opps... Had to get that out of my system.. Ok anyway, I think I would go with visual. And I know your gonna ask "Why are Bees so wonderful?" The answer is "Oh, Thanks for asking, its because I have a Bee package!" lol ( Go with visual)

JSpythons Aug 26, 2007 10:06 AM

Mike Heinzer? I got the pastel poss. het ghost pair he was selling that came from the same clutch as that super pastel female you might be getting. I am really happy with them. If I were you, I'd just buy a het male, so that if they she doesn't prove out, you haven't lost a lot of money. If she does prove out then you've saved some money by just going with the het male. I can't wait to breed my pair, I hope I hit the jackpot and get some good combinations.

MannyRottie Aug 27, 2007 12:01 PM

I am getting her from Mike. He seems like a cool dude. I think I am gonna go with a het male depending on the price difference between that and a visual ghost male.

JSpythons Aug 27, 2007 05:43 PM

Yeah, he is pretty cool. I would buy from him again no problem. The pastels that are the brother and sister of the super female are sweet lookin'. The female is a ringer and the male is smokin'. Don't hesitate to buy from him. Good luck.
