Water Pond and monitor waste question...

grimly Aug 25, 2007 08:11 PM

I was just wondering, will the turtle water treatment stuff they sell work for dissolving a monitors waste in a pond and therefore allowing a filter to work and keep the water clean for at least a week? This is a general question. It could apply for any monitor and filter. Let's say from an adult tree monitors pond, to an adult water monitors pond. The pond could be from 10 gallons to 150 gallons. Just wonder.............

An adult water monitor drops healthy loads a few times a week. I highly doubt the water would be sanitary without being changed.

Hello,

On the contrary, anything 10 to 150 gallons constitutes a tub rather than a pond. A real pond, in itself provides all of the natural biological sanitation that is needed to provide a monitors and multiple other life forms with drinkable water. I would redirect your focus on enclosing a real pond for your water monitor as others have done for crocodiles and other giant reptiles. Best to you- Mike
