Hey! What if I cross a het albino Cal..

Shadylady Aug 25, 2007 10:24 PM

If I cross a het albino 50/50 Calking with het albino Sinaloan. All the offspring should be non-albino, right? And they would be possibly het for albino, but could be from either parent, right?

What would you do then to figure out which is het for which albino?

If the albino in the Sinaloan is allelic with albinism in Cal Kings (I don't know) - 1/4 of your offspring would be albino, 2/4 would be het albino, and 1/4 would not carry the albino gene.

If they are not allelic -

1/4 would be double het (het for both)
1/4 het for cal king albinism
1/4 het for sinaloan albinism
1/4 would not carry an albino gene

As far as figuring which normal looking offspring are hets - you have to breed them to determine them.

Sinaloan (HomoZ) Type I Amel

Cali (het) Type II Amel

If the two lines of amel are allelic

1/2 would be albino
1/2 would be 100% het

If the lines are NOT allelic

1/2 would be 2x het for both lines
1/2 would be het for the Sinaloan line since it was the HomoZ Amel

Okay, so I guess I could breed the females back to their father and that would tell me whether they are het for that kind of albinism.

Hmmm, guess I can only try it and see what I get, huh?

Thanks!
