Thermostat question

Kingofspades Aug 26, 2007 06:01 AM

I am building a cooler incubator for the upcoming breeding season (my first)

I've heard many people use Helix and Herpstats...but has anyone used the Habistat thermostat?

Go to ebay and look up Reptile thermostats and it comes up. I was wondering if it's any good for incubators.

Thanks,
-Me

I have not heard of that thermostat. The reason people like the helix and herpstat, is that they are proportional thermostats.

I don't sell thermostats, but I have done a fair amount of research into them and I think that Helix currently has the best and safest thermostat available.

Any thermostat that works on the "on off" principle rather than "proportional" will eventually fail and will fail in either the on or the off position.

Apparently this one is like a proportional.
It acts almost like a dimmer switch...

I'll probably just get a Helix.

I'm not familiar with the Habistat Thermostats but I know the Herpstats have features that are designed around incubators. The power matching mode allows you to adjust the proportional power output curve depending on the efficiency of your incubator. If you have a less efficient enclosure you can increase the power output to compensate or if you have a very efficient enclosure that retains too much heat you can decrease the curve so it doesn't overshoot. You won't find this feature in other thermostats. The Herpstats also measures in tenths of a degree and track your high/lows which the Helix does not.
