What kind of uromastyx is this? I was told it was a Mali. The color in the picture is a little off. IRL he looks more red on top.
Also has anyone used Zoo Med Excavator clay? Opinions?
Thanks!

Uromastyx geyri, a.k.a. Saharan or Niger Uromastyx. I got one just like him - you can see a bunch of pictures in the uromastyx gallery. Congrats! He actually looks to be in decent shape considering how pet stores usually keep them (I'm assuming thats where he's from since they didn't know which type he was) - He is a little skinny though, so get him on an appropriate diet right away. Make sure to run him up to a vet that treats reptiles, call any place that says 'exotics' and ask. Or, at the least just bring a fecal sample to any vet to check for parasites - he will likely need to be de-wormed. That second picture really shows off the fire-orange coloring nicely.

I got him 2 days ago and he hasn't eaten much. I feed him the same greens as I feed my bearded dragons - mustard and collard greens, dandelions and grated squash. Is there anything I can do to stimulate his eating? I have 2 hides, one cool, one hot, temps go from 80 - 119ish. Right now he's on millet and wild bird seed mix but I am open to better suggestions.
thanks!
My Mali has done WAY better since I got him off the sand and put him on the birdseed... he's more active and likes to burrow under his hides... I was told by a few on here not to leave the sunflower seeds in the mix, but he seems to like them and its kind of funny watchin him crack the shells... I haven't seen him eat a shell yet, so until I do, I'm not going to worry about him...

Take out the collard and kale, and switch to a greens mix of primarily endive/escarole, along with a bit of bok choy and some dandelion greens. Shredded squash or mango is fine also. Once your Uro is eating the staple greens mentioned above, you can rotate through other things for treats like edible flowers, finch seed (no sunflower seeds), soaked lentils, occasionally frozen veggies like carrots/corn/peas (not too often, just an occasional treat). The endive and/or escarole should be the base of their daily salad.
Hope this helps out. Uros take time to acclimate and get used to their new environments. If you get them treated for parasites, and have the proper enclosure/temps/lights/diet, he should do fine. I have a yellow-phase Uro. geyri that looks just like Gnuby's twin
