just a project I'm excited about......

gray Aug 26, 2007 10:14 PM

I had another litter of Jungles born last Wednesday. The mother is very special to me. She produced a litter of "normals" for me back in 2005 that have turned out to be quite abnormal in my opinion. I'll show you the parents and abnormal normals from the 05 litter first and then show you the Jungles from last week.

Photo of Sierra the mother:

Mom's laterals:

It still gives me heartache that I lost this animal without passing on her genes. This was Sierra's sister - Tierra. I don't know the lineage of these animals but I do know that they were sold from California so I have always assumed that they were born there. Tierra and another animal I own (Bianca) are the most beautiful "normals" that I have seen in the flesh.

Here is a photo of the father of the original 05 litter, Tiago (acquired from Ben Siegel, unknown origin):

Camillia then - holdback 05 female (original baby photo from 5-22-05)

Camillia now (updated photo from 8-26-07)

Donita then - holdback 05 female (original baby photo from 5-22-05)

Donita now (updated photo from 8-26-07)

I also held back a male. He is living in my classroom at school. There were 11 large babies in that litter so I sold 8 of them. Would love to hear from others about how their Sierra kids have progressed.

The crazy thing is that Mom colored up all the way into adulthood. Here is a photo of her when she was about a year and a half old:

Camillia and Donita are going to get more colorful. Can you tell I'm having fun?

Now for the 2007 litter - you met Mom above.

Here is a photo of the Jungle father of the recent litter, Tito (acquired from Craig Tanner):

By the way, this male has been impregnated every female he has been with. Five for five with five different females. In the name of outcrossing, he has been sold and will be moving to another collection very soon. It will be a sad day but his legacy will live on here forever........I have held back bunches of his children. Hopefully his sons will all be equally fertile. Long live Tito!!!

So what happens when you combine the clean color saturation of Mom with the Jungle gene? I can't wait to find out. The kids should begin shedding around Wednesday or so. The patterns are incredible......now I just want to see what degree of contrast & color they will be starting with. Here are a couple photos from the birthing:

I didn't start out with the intention of making such a long post. I definitely got caught up in my own excitement about this project. If you made it this far, thanks for looking.

WOW how many babies do you have? They look like they have some amazing patterns!

I'm new to this Boa thing, what do you call what the "normals" turned into? Are they still "normals" with the altered colorations?

How much will the babies go for? Email me if you like.

gray Aug 27, 2007 02:24 PM

.....to be "normals". One of the males from the original litter produced offspring this year but I haven't seen them. They may look very normal as babies but I would bet they will turn orange in the first year.

There were 18 babies. I won't think about pricing until I photograph them without the dead skin.

Glad you like'em.

good to meet you in Daytona. Who was that crazy dude from Brooklyn that you were hanging out with?!

AbsoluteApril Aug 27, 2007 10:39 AM

Hi Gray,
Both Tierra and Sierra look amazingly like my female Zahara IMO.
Very clean, great color, nice tail color, similar saddle shapes.
I 'rescued' her from a guy here in California. She was born in '98. I wonder if they are related? I was told from the prior owner that she came from a 'pet store' (he was the 2nd owner, got from a friend of his).
Congrats on the jungles, they are oustanding, I was drooling over them on your website Friday.

if they shared some common lineage. Yours reminds me a lot of Tierra (RIP). If she ever needs a new home, you know who to call!

AbsoluteApril Aug 29, 2007 11:49 AM

Heh, yeah she's not going anywhere, one of my favorites. I'm thinking of pairing her up with my albino this season (she was a mother once for the first time in '06 and took this past season off.) As soon as I saw the pic it reminded me of her, they could easily have been from the same line. Too bad about Tiera though.

Have a great day!

.....I enjoyed seeing all those fabulous boas that you took to Daytona. The Super Jungles were my favorites.....and the albino Super Motley amazes me in how far and fast the Motley project has progressed. Congratulations on that genetic wonder.
