Fake Respiratory Infection

brianray Aug 27, 2007 03:35 AM

I had my big female out of her cage to get a few pieces of shed off when a thick clear liquid came out of her nose/mouth. I checked her mouth and it looked fine but still obviously took her to the vet.

The vet told me she is fine and probably drank a lot of water while shedding and it produced the liquid. I've never seen, heard, or read about anything like that before.

Your vet's most likely correct. They'll take a pretty big drink sometimes and if someone unknowingly picks them up shortly afterwards the pressure from it's weight on your hands will force some of that water out. Looks like they're drooling. It's nothing to be overly concerned with unless, of course, he drools on YOU . Glad it wasn't something more serious.

Don't interupt me when I'm talkin' to myself

I've actually had that happen to me with chickens often enough that when one of my snakes did it to me, I recognized what it was. One of those live and learn things, I guess!

With the temperature in the enclosure at 69.1 deg., it won't be long until it actually gets an RI though.....bump up that temp.

I was hoping someone would chime in on the temp. I saw that also. Turn it up...

Ha ha I was hoping nobody would notice that. My temps aren't that low, I had just cleaned the cage so the thermometer didn't heat up yet.
I have kept the hot side around 90 and the cool side no less than 75. Thanks for looking out for me though
